Sweden: Visiting Gothenburg

Gothenburg is Sweden's second largest city and is highly welcoming of visitors, so much so that the city has developed its own tourist pass that allows visitors to take advantage of large discounts on many attractions in the city. Called the Gothenburg Pass, it is readily available from the tourist office. A 24-hour pass costs 245 Kroner for adults and gives you a 50% discount on the entrance fee to featured attractions. Tourists staying in vacation homes in Sweden are well-advised to purchase a Gothenburg Pass if they plan to visit this city.

Attractions in Gothenburg

One of the best ways to start your explorations is to take a guided bus tour. It will take just an hour of your time and help to introduce you to the various parts of the city so that you can plan the rest of your day.

Of course, your day may not need much planning if you choose to visit Liseberg. This attraction is an amusement park featuring everything from merry-go-rounds to roller coasters, as well as more sedate entertainments such as gardens to explore and cafs that serve lovely cups of tea and coffee. Liseberg is good to visit in December because this is where the "Magical Christmas Market" meets. This market features more 75 stalls selling Christmas-themed goods, many of them so Scandinavian in nature that you would be hard-pressed to find direct equivalents in the United States.

Another excellent attraction is the Big Eye, a Ferris wheel that permits visitors to enjoy fascinating panoramic views of the city.
