Las Vegas Attractions: The Strip and Downtown Areas

There is no city in the world quite like Las Vegas, Nevada. Of course, many other places on Earth offer the opportunity to gamble, but no city does it with as much style and panache as this metropolis located near the southern tip of the state.

Gamblers have two distinct venues to choose from, Las Vegas Boulevard, better known as the "Strip," and the downtown area. Most of the casinos visitors are most familiar with are located along the Strip, which stretches for over a mile and features such world-famous hotels as Caesar's Palace, the Luxor Resort, Treasure Island, Excalibur, and Circus Circus.

Many of the strip casinos are styled according to a theme and offer attractions appropriate for adults and children alike. New York, New York features a rollercoaster speeding around and through replica skyscrapers that capture the feel of the big city skyline; inside the Bellagio, built to resemble a Venetian pleasure palace, guests can enjoy a leisurely gondola ride along a series of canals.

The downtown area has fewer themed hotels, but offers unique attractions all the same. The Fremont Street Experience allows visitors to walk along a large roofed street closed to traffic while lasers project images on the ceiling. Locals consider this area to be the "real" Las Vegas since it is where the original casinos were first constructed more than 60 years ago. To enjoy Las Vegas in all its diverse glory, investigate the large variety of vacation homes available in Las Vegas.

Las Vegas is not immediately associated with great natural landscapes, but no tour of the National Parks and scenery of the Southwest would be complete without at least one day visiting the spectacular casinos of The Strip - the main road through this energetic desert city. Apart from its own famous man-made attractions, Las Vegas is a good base or starting point from which to explore this part of America - together with Phoenix in Arizona, it is the most central major city in the region, with good international airline connections and all necessary facilities. Nearby natural attractions include Mount Charleston, Red Rock Canyon, the Valley of Fire and Lake Mead.
